ArtisThe Blue Morpho is a beautiful butterfly with bright blue coloured fore and hindwings. The contrasting under side of the wings has nondescript colouring as camouflage. The Blue Morpho has excellent antennae that it uses to find food and a partner. They are also known as flying flowers, in reference to their contribution to the pollination process.
In many cultures, butterflies symbolise luck, freedom and love. The Ancient Greeks even believed that someone is born every time a butterfly crawls out of its cocoon.
Artis uses conservation methods to rear butterfly pupae, for example in Costa Rica. This type of project preserves rainforest and offers the local population the an ecologically-friendly livelihood. This is one of the projects that express Artis’ corporate social responsibility.
